Guided Tour – Christmas Special: Mozart and Music

November 28 / December 5/12/19

Follow in the footsteps of W. A. Mozart at the Salzburg court of the prince-archbishops and learn more about his life and work in Salzburg. During the atmospheric Advent and Christmas season, the tour also explores how the Mozart family spent the holidays and which musical traditions shaped Christmas celebrations at the time.

The State Rooms of the Residenz and Salzburg Cathedral were the immediate professional surroundings — the workplace — of the court musicians, including Wolfgang Amadé Mozart. Alongside his birthplace and former residence, DomQuartier is therefore one of the most important original Mozart sites in Salzburg.

Mozart performed here as a member of the court orchestra and composed music for these rooms for a wide range of occasions. Most of his sacred music was written for Salzburg Cathedral, which can be viewed as part of the DomQuartier tour, including its historic organ loft.

At the end of the tour, visitors receive a small gift from the Salzburg Christmas Market.
