Mozart Requiem Around the Anniversary of W. A. Mozart’s Death

Salzburg – Vienna – Munich

Around the anniversary of Wolfgang Amadé Mozart’s death, three major Mozart cities in the German-speaking world will present his final work, the Requiem in D minor, K. 626.

Mozart’s Requiem is among the most powerful and haunting works in the classical repertoire. Few works are so closely associated with the stories and myths surrounding their composer. The music brings together profound human experiences of farewell and mortality — from fear and despair to grief, hope and consolation.

In Salzburg, the Requiem will be performed on 5 December at the Mozarteum’s Großer Saal, with the Mozarteum Orchestra conducted by Trevor Pinnock. In Vienna, the work will be performed on 4 December, at the hour of Mozart’s death, in St. Stephen’s Cathedral.

Munich will also commemorate Mozart on 5 December, with performances at the Himmelfahrtskirche Sendling, featuring the Lassus Chor München and Capella München, and at St. Markus Church, with the Markus Chor.Three cities, three venues and one work that continues to exert its extraordinary power.
