Mozarteum Foundation Mozart Week 2026
Mozart: lux æterna
Mozart Week celebrates the immortality of Mozart’s genius loci around the 270th anniversary of his birth
| From January 22 to February 1, 2026
The focus of Mozart Week 26 is the new production of the most popular opera of all time: Mozart’s The Magic Flute. Rolando Villazón directs and Roberto González-Monjas conducts the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg. This opera event is accompanied by a packed program of around 70 events. The orchestra and chamber concerts feature the usual high-calibre performers. There will be much more to celebrate here – world premieres, farewells, and more birthdays. Two new works by the young Salzburg composer Karim Zech will be performed for the first time. Two legendary ensembles, which will bid farewell to the stage for good in 2026, will perform for the last time at Mozart Week: the Cappella Andrea Barca and the Hagen Quartet. Two long-time friends of the festival who celebrate their birthdays on the same day as Mozart are among the select group of artists: Renaud Capuçon and Emmanuel Pahud. The anniversary program is rounded off by artistic puppet theater with live music, performances, cinema with early film rarities about Mozart, readings, artist talks, a pub quiz, family concerts, and much more.
2026 will also mark the 70th edition of the renowned Mozart Festival in Winter, which heralds the start of the Salzburg festival season every year.
